Today we had lots of things to accomplish and while we were very good about managing the to-do list, we also took some time off. There is a local coffee shop we love named Happy Creek Coffee. The rustic atmosphere is just perfect. I love their oatmeal bar and the fact that they roast their own coffee beans. The coffee is amazing. I sat and knit on the Leaf Blanket for a while and J. tried out different lenses on his camera. It wasn't a vacation, but it was a little something and that makes all the difference.
Cottage Covets: I stopped in at Wild Hare Fiber Studio in Front Royal, Va and talked with Melissa Yoder Ricks, the owner. It is a small shop, mostly a studio but she does have some lovely yarn and fiber on hand and also an Etsy Shop where you can check out her amazing colorways. Since meeting Melissa, I have been coveting her sock yarn in the GORGEOUS colorway Urban Camo. We also discussed spinning wheels and I drooled over the vast amount of fiber she showed me. It all just convinces me further that I really need to get a spinning wheel!
Tranquil home: So far I have managed to keep the critters from eating my tomatoes. They are still green and have doubled in size over the last week. The squash and cucumbers have plenty of blooms and fingers crossed, I think I see pea pods. Oh a not so tranquil note, we are dealing with air conditioning woes. Heat rises which makes a loft an awfully uncomfortable place to sleep in 90 degree weather, so we have invested in a new air conditioner. I think we will sleep much better tonight!

Getting needled: I started the Leaf Blanket by Susan B. Anderson on Wednesday for a co-worker who is expecting an addition to the family. Concerned with washability, durability and softness I went middle of the road and chose Berroco Vintage Chunky in the Douglas Fir colorway. The yarn is 52% acrylic, 40% wool and 8% nylon. Overall very soft and I think it should be very easy care for new parents to deal with.
Lets make a toast: To taking some time out for the things and people who are important to you. It may only be an hour, but if you are with those you love, doing things you love they are times to be cherished and a "little something" to get you through tougher times. Tonight I am having a Virginia wine from the Williamsburg Winery Ltd. 2012 Governor's White, American Riesling. Semi dry, light and fruity. So raise a glass to those cherished "little somethings". Cheers!
